Fall RV Camping in the Hudson Valley: Copake's Complete Guide
Fall RV camping in the Hudson Valley at Copake Camping Resort comes down to three choices: which stretch of the season, which site, and how to keep your rig comfortable as the nights cool. We have 229 RV sites in Columbia County, each with water, electric, sewer and cable, and we're open May through October. Most of our guests drive in from New York City, Westchester, Northern New Jersey, Connecticut and western Massachusetts. This guide covers our sites, the best dates for your trip, what's on at the resort, day trips, cold-night setup, rules, rates, and how to book.
Our RV Sites for Fall Camping
Every site has 50-amp service, Wi-Fi and cable TV, on top of the water, electric and sewer hookups. You can choose back-in, pull-thru or deluxe patio sites, and our RV page describes sunny and shady options. The sites are Big Rig friendly. Our staff talk through your rig's length when you book, so you're matched to a site that fits. Our Rates page lists Full Pull Thru and Deluxe Full Pull Thru sites by name. Each site holds one camping unit and up to six registered campers. Tell us your rig length and slide-out setup when you call, and we'll help you pick from the RV sites.

Best Time for Fall RV Camping at Copake
The right dates depend on the kind of trip you want. Here's how the three main options compare.
- October weekends carry a two-night minimum and the full weekend program of themed events and Saturday live entertainment.
- Columbus Day weekend carries a three-night minimum. It's non-refundable and can't be changed, so book it early and settle your plans first.
- Midweek stays use the weekday rate, $89 for a Full Pull Thru site. Our programming is built around weekends, so a midweek trip trades events for lower rates.
Leaf color changes from year to year, and we don't publish a peak date. Because our terms allow a $10 change per site until 14 days before arrival, book your preferred weekend early and check current foliage reports before you go.
What's Happening at the Resort in Fall
We run live entertainment every Saturday night, plus themed weekends and local winery and brewery tastings through the season. Themed weekends include holiday weekends, costume nights, scavenger hunts, trivia and cookouts and tastings run nearly every weekend through October. Our activities page lists the current schedule.
Between events, the property has a mini golf course, dog park, arcade, playground, pickleball court, sand volleyball, cornhole, a camp store, a snack bar and a laundry facility. The pool schedule may fluctuate or close without notice, so ask the office whether it's open on your dates.

Fall Day Trips From Your RV Site
Our local attractions page has the full list, with drive times. These stand out in fall:
- Bash Bish Falls, about ten minutes away, is Massachusetts's tallest single-drop waterfall. The autumn trail is cushioned with fallen leaves under a red and gold canopy.
- Olana, the home of Hudson River School painter Frederic Church, sits high on a hill with a sweeping view of the Hudson Valley.
- Hudson, NY and Great Barrington, MA are both good for a town day. Hudson's Warren Street has antique shops, galleries and farm-to-table cafes. Great Barrington has bookshops and boutiques.
- Local orchards and farm stands sell apples, pumpkins and cider donuts. Samascott Orchards is our pick for apple picking.
- Catamount is 15 minutes away, with an aerial park for ages 8 and up.
- Hudson-Chatham Winery, Harvest Spirits, Hillrock Estate Distillery and Chatham Brewing are close enough for an afternoon without breaking camp.
Setting Up Your RV for Cold Fall Nights
Every site has 50-amp service. Our rules ask guests to turn off lights, air conditioning and heaters when they leave the campground for an extended period. Some other site rules apply:
- A surge suppressor made for your RV and an in-line water filter at the hookup are both strongly advised.
- The camp store refills propane. Tanks with a fill capacity over 40 pounds aren't allowed, and outside vendors aren't permitted.
- Electric vehicle charging at your site is prohibited.
- If the forecast shows a hard freeze, call the office before you arrive and ask about water for your dates.

Fall Rules to Plan Around
Dark comes earlier every week of fall, and several of our rules are tied to it.
- Bike riding after dusk isn't permitted, and swimming after dark is strictly prohibited.
- Firewood can't come from home. The camp store sells it. Fires stay inside the metal rings, no higher than 24 inches, and are fully out before you go to bed.
- Quiet time ends at 8 AM, and minors must be back at their site with an adult by 10 PM.
- Dogs stay on a leash of six feet or less and aren't allowed in public buildings or the swim areas. Our dog park is fenced.
- Visitors aren't permitted on short-term reservations. Read our full Rules & Policies.

FAQ
How many people can each Copake cabin sleep?
The Rustic Cabin sleeps up to 5, the Deluxe Cabin and Duplex Studio Cabin sleep 4, and the Premier and Premier Loft sleep 9. Registered guests in a cabin can't exceed its sleeping capacity, so count beds before you count households.
Can we reserve several cabins for one family reunion?
Copake Camping Resort has four cabin styles on one property, and each cabin is booked and priced separately. A reunion can reserve as many as are open for your dates. Cancellation and change fees apply per cabin. Call (518) 329-2811 and tell us your group size so we can check availability.
Can relatives visit for the day if they aren't staying overnight?
Visitors aren't permitted on short-term reservations at Copake Camping Resort, so everyone at the reunion needs to be registered on a cabin or RV site. If a relative plans a day-only visit, call the office before you promise it.
Can we mix cabins and RV sites in the same group?
Yes. Copake has cabins and 229 full-hookup RV sites on the same property, so relatives with RVs can stay alongside relatives in cabins. Each RV site holds one camping unit and up to six registered campers. Ask the office about placement for your dates.
How much does it cost to rent several cabins?
Rates are per cabin, per night: Rustic $119 weekday and $134 weekend, Deluxe and Duplex Studio $169 and $184, and Premier and Premier Loft $229 and $244. Two Rustic Cabins for two weekend nights come to $536 before any tax. Each cabin also carries a $200 security deposit at check-in. Ask the office for your final total.
What happens if it rains during the reunion?
Weather isn't grounds for a refund. Our rules describe camping as an outdoor experience and don't refund for discomfort from the weather. Rain checks apply only when you cancel 29 to 15 days ahead. For a wet afternoon, the Norman Rockwell Museum and Olana are nearby indoor options.
Can one person book and pay for all the cabins?
Payment in full is due at booking, and each cabin's $200 security deposit is charged to a credit card at check-in. Four cabins means $800 in deposits, so decide whose card covers it. If each household books its own cabin instead, each family owns its own fees.
Is there a minimum stay for cabins?
Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Columbus Day weekends have a three-night minimum. October weekends other than Columbus Day have a two-night minimum. Our Rates page lists no other minimums.
